Opening Question:

What is one thing that is coming up in your life that you are excited about?

Digging Deeper:

1. Read James 1:1-12. What stands out to you in these verses?

2. What does wisdom have to do with facing trials? (verses 5-8) Describe a time when God’s wisdom helped you through a problem.

3. What is the promise in verses 6-8? What is the condition? Why might we doubt when we come to God for wisdom in trials?

Life Application

1. Go over some of the reflection questions from the back of the sermon notes.

2. How would you define joy? What are some things that try to steal your joy?

3. What does it look like to consider our trials joy? How is that possible?

4. Think about a few of the most difficult trials you have faced. Do you think you responded well or poorly? What thoughts or beliefs dominated your mind and your emotions in each circumstance?

5. Are there other members in your group, or friends or family that are suffering right now? How can you encourage them this week? What can you do specifically to bless them?
