Opening Question:
Who is one of the most compassionate people you know and why do you think so?

Digging Deeper:
1. Read John 5:1-13- What stands out to you in these verses? What moves Jesus to reach out to the man?
2. What is the man’s response to Jesus’ question? Why is this significant?
3. Look at the first half of verse 14, “Later Jesus found him at the temple.” What is significant about this?

Life Application

1. When have you experienced compassion from someone directly or observed it in someone else?

2. How could you show compassion to your 8-15? What are some practical steps you can take? (Your 8-15 are the 8-15 people God has placed in your life that you naturally have influence with.)

3. Imagine yourself a year from now having practiced compassion in all areas of your life. What would that look like and what were the steps it took to get there?

4. The man most likely felt hopeless. How could you infuse hope into someone else’s life?

5. We are exposed to so many needs via social media or the news. How have you maybe become desensitized to the needs and hurts of others?

6. Are there areas in your life you would like to get well? Share with the group and pray for each other.
