Bible Text: Romans 12:1-13 | Speaker: Pastor Rob Burke | Series: Flourish

Message Notes

Don’t just serve, Be a Servant

The greatest among you will be your servant. – Matthew 23:11

Healthy body, healthy TEAM. Let’s take care of the team
Christ is the head of the Body – Be the body
Listen to God
Listen to others

The first service that one owes to others in the fellowship consists in listening to them. Just as love to God begins with listening to His Word, so the beginning of love for the brethren is learning to listen to them. It is God’s love for us that He not only gives us His Word but also lends us His ear. One who cannot listen long and patiently will presently be talking beside the point and be never really speaking to others, albeit he be not conscious of it. Anyone who thinks that his time is too valuable to spend keeping quiet will eventually have no time for God and his brother, but only for himself and for his own follies. – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Nothing disciplines the inordinate desires of the flesh like service, and nothing transforms the desires of the  flesh like serving in hiddenness.” – Richard Foster

Life Application

One of the best ways for us to flourish is to serve others.  What are some of the areas that you have served in?  How have you seen God use you in those areas?
What are some of the needs you see around our church, our community, our world? How can you be an encouragement and blessing to others this week?
How would having a servant mindset change your life?  What does it look like to come together and take care of the team as Rob talked about?
What will listening to God look like for you this week? How can you make it more of a habit?
Everybody plays a part of the team (Everyone is a Minister.) In what ways is God challenging you to be a part of the team?  Are there any new areas He may be putting on your heart to serve in?
Spend time praying for each other.
